The Rhythm of Life

Welcome back to Running on Ayers where for almost a decade I’ve been documenting my running journey. Some days have been more difficult than others but all have been a part of the process.

In May, I announced that I was planning to run my next Boston Marathon Qualifying attempt this December at the California International Marathon. Last week I started dusting off the cobwebs. Before then, I hadn’t run in months due to irregular job hours.

It’s amazing how influential rhythm can be on your life. I’m personally a very habitual person. I put the same things in the same pockets every day. When I run I avoid stoplights because stopping and starting breaks the rhythm of my steps. It took me a long time and a lot of races to learn to navigate water stops without losing a step (drop a comment if you use “the pinch method”).

Working at different times of the day throughout a week threw off my sleep patterns, eating schedules as well as putting running deep on the backburner. Just last week, I was able to establish a level of normalcy with my schedule allowing my training for CIM to commence.

Like most people starting a training plan, the first runs were pretty close to awful. Today was one of the first days where running felt anything close to normal. It felt…rhythmic.

I’m looking forward to continuing to share this journey with you throughout the next few months. Thank you to those who subscribed. Starting October 1st, the first blogpost for Life Lessons Through Sports will be released. This blog will be delivering a weekly dose of motivational stories that I learned through participating in a variety of sports over the years.

See you on the road!
